So Much Crafting, Prosthetic Makeup and a whole load of designing!

This week has been a whole load of crafting in preparation for the Comicon's coming up this year. Its been a lot of learning, trial and errors as well as a whole load of ordering material...and I would be lying if I said that I was loving it! Crafting and designing characters has always been so therapeutic for me, I can just focus solely on my creations and (for the majority of the time) forget about the chronic pain stuff.

So last blog I showed you a sneak peak of the chest piece that I was working on but not the final piece. So here it is....

I have to say for my first chest piece/armour piece, I don't think I did that bad. I definitely learnt some lessons with it and my next one I think am going to try out a different material.

This will be available for sale at Preston Comicon and if it doesn't sell there then it will be available at Blackburn Comicon. If anybody reading this is interested then send me a message, I can hold on to it for you to collect at the event.

The other items I've been working on to sell is another arm piece, which I can't remember if I've talking about this one with you guys or not but here it is....

Makeup wise, its been a bit slow because I've been wrapping up with my teaching work last week. 
I posted the makeup tutorial video on the HUDA beauty palette which I got a lot of nice attention from.

I love this palette though, its so pretty the metallic, matts and shimmers in all those luscious oranges, yellows and reds...lovely warm colours. Warm colours aren't a normal style I gravitate towards but with this palette I love them.
I haven't bought much from HUDA beauty in the past but I think I may be buying more in the future...well when I make the money back that I've spend on all that crafting and fabrication!!!

This weeks YouTube video going up will be a prosthetic makeup one...yes its the one I gave you a tease of in the last blog.

But back to the look, so with this look for some silly reason I decided that I would try apply on the hottest days ever!! I mean I had sweat dripping all over!!! 

But I did it!! It wasn't the cleanest application I have ever done but it was a good application and am pretty sure I have the amazing adhesive Snappy G to thank for that one!!

If you have never heard of Snappy G, its an awesome silicone adhesive from https://www.neillsmaterials.co.uk which works wonders of staying powder and using it under some stressful...sweaty situations!!

 The look is created with two silicone prosthetics created by moi using EcoFlex and Stuart Bray molds, the brow piece and the mouth piece. 
Both of these pieces will be available to buy at both the Preston Comicon and the Blackburn Comicon. If your interested in buying let me know and I'll hold them for you to collect and pay at the event.

Because am now officially on my holiday's from work, I have plenty of time to plan and design stuff so along with the work for the Comicon's that am doing I also have two other events that am planning to attend.

One being a competition and the other a music festival that I regularly help out at. I think for this blog, I'll tell you about the music festival cause I need to sort somethings out regarding the competition before I official state am competing!!

Confessional is the name of the music festival and I have been for the past 3 years I think, with a stall applying themed face painting and glitters. The themes have been some awesome ones in the past such as David Bowie were I was applying Ziggy lightening to people. As well as the awesome themes, the whole event is in an abandoned/disused church which gets all fancied up. The event typically starts at 4pm and runs till midnight with loads of live bands playing and a DJ set based on the theme that year. Some of the bands that I've seen there have been Cabbage, Amber Arcades and Bang Bang Romeo which are all awesome local or indie bands.

This years Confessional's theme is "out of this world" with a kind of 80s B rates Sci-fi feel and will be held on 8th Sept 2pm-midnight (yay longer then last years festival!) at Holy Trinity Church and will feature bands such as Mold, Fruittones, The Ninth Wave and more!
I will be there of course with my right hand lady and another ex-student (who am yet to ask if she wants to do it!) and we will be offering face painting/glitter and new for this years festival face gems. So get your tickets ----- https://www.facebook.com/confessionalfestival

Illamasqua Nomadic Palette and Vintage Metallix "Galaxy" Makeup look and Review

One of the best times of year is of course New Years sales and one of my favourite ones to grab a bargain is Illamasqua, this isn't just because its one of my favourite brands of makeup.
There are a variety of products on offer this year from 50%, 60% and 70% off but hurry, cause I don't know how long it going to last!!
Two of the products currently on sale are the "Nomadic" palette and Vintage Metallix in "Galaxy" which I decided to buy...good choice on my part!

So the Nomadic palette is a collection of 4 eye shadows, 3 matt finishes and 1 metallic finish and all producing an intense colour pay off. Colours include "Loam" (dark earth green), "Terra" (orange clay red), "Solitude" (light wash grey) and "Gravity" (metallic graphic grey)
The tones are all very earthy with beautiful blending abilities which would look amazing for an edgy tribal/warrior style look or a smoky eyed look.

Vintage Metallix in "Galaxy" is an absolutely gorgeous creamy gel eye shadow or as I use it frequently eyeliner. The colour "Galaxy" is a rich antique gold colour with dull metallic tones which is good for a more muted effect. The product boosts an intense metallic finish, smudge resistant and long wear time which I would complete agree with even when used to colour your eyebrows as I have done many times.


The look I came up with for these products was a tribal/warrior style look using only the eye shadows from the Nomadic palette and the Metallix on the brows. All the products went on beautiful with a fantastic colour pay off and a smooth application.

For an added sparkle I put a couple of gems and on my lips I wore +Urban Decay Cosmetics Matt Lipstick in "Black Mail" with a little of the Metallix doted in the centre to add more of a pout to the lips.

The Vintage Metallix worked brilliantly on my brows and really did last all day with good pigmentation.

So that my review and look; as you can see the colours are amazing and if your quick you might be able to grab these products at sale prices from +Illamasqua

PaperSelf Lashes and Nature Inspired Makeup with triple victory rolls.

Today's uber quick blog relating to pretty makeup is all

 about my favourite lashes, PaperSelf lashes, I absolutely love them. They are so cute!!

The ones I used in todays look is these butterfly and stag ones, you can get loads of different deigns as well as full strip lashes. These beautiful corner lashes can be worn on the top or bottom lashes, I like wearing one at a time and usually on the bottom lash line as I feel it shows off the design better. The lash itself is quiet delicate, not like tissue paper delicate but you need to take care not to be too rough with them as they can last quiet a few applications if you look after them.

The look I went for with these lashes was a nature inspired with nude lips which is a weird thing for me, am not one for neutral lips so it did feel a little "different"

I used Jeffree Star Cosmetics Mattifing lipstick in "I'm Nude", the colour is lush not to mention the staying power of this baby! Fantastic colour pay off with only one coat required for good coverage. I'm definitely going to buy more of these, "Unicorn Blood" just looks yummy as well as their range of blue shades.

I used 3 eye shadows in total to create the look, using a simple blending application as I wanted all the focus to be on the lashes.

I used a mixture of +illamasqua "Fame", which is a beautiful lush green, +Sugarpill "Acid Berry", fantastic sharp lime green colour that works perfectly to create a harmonous effect between the two colours. To add a little kick I added +Sugarpill ChromoLust in Goldilux which is a shimmery pure gold colour.

After applying the eyeshadow, I decided I wanted to add more gold tones to the look, so using +Mehron Blog Metallic Powder and mixing liquid, I add a little along the lash lines. If you haven't used this product, go out and buy it now! Its a fantastic liquid gold that really does look like liquid gold, its a lot less shimmery then the Sugar Pill Cosmetic Chromolust.

So that's the look, I teamed it with my triple victory rolls and vola!

Sun Set Eye Makeup and Black Lips: Products Review and Makeup Look of the Day

Hi my Lovelies,

This a quick old fashioned makeup look and product post, I want to do more of these but I've been given a little more responsibility in my teaching job plus I have my new students starting in September so I want to get all my workshops brand new and sparkling before they start...basically am going to try and keep up with the makeup looks posts but can't promise.

This look is one of my favourite looks to do, I love the contrast between the black lips and the bright eyes! Plus as I have mentioned to my students before now, I wear this look when I need a quick application but dramatic look.

 

Big lashes are needed for this sort of looks at well.

So the products that I used for this look, some of them are newish and some I use time and time again.

 

+Kat von D makeup is something that is am absolute guilty pleasure of mine, it cost quiet a bit to get it sent over to the UK but its totally worth it!

 

The Shade and Light palette is a fantastic powder contouring palette that is absolutely amazing! The pigments are buildable with a smooth consistency for a powder and easily blended onto the skin to give a beautiful contour to any face shape or feature. I frequently use this product for my brides and prom makeups.

 

 

I used +Sugarpill "Burning Heart" palette for the eyes, this is a staple favourite of mine which I use almost everyday. I love all of +Sugarpill 's cosmetics for the pure and simple fact that the eye shadows are amazing pigmented with super strong colour pay offs.

 

 

To blend my eye shadows, I used Sugar Pill Cosmetics large eye shadow brush. This is one of my favourite brushes and am sure I will be buying more of there brushes in future (I just purchased their blending brush from this years IMATS) Its super fluffy and soft, excellent for blending colours together.

 

 
My absolute favourite foundation at the moment is another one of Kat Von D's products, Lock it Foundation. I have been saving up for this one for a while, again due to the cost of shipping it in rather then the cost of the product!

I cannot tell you enough how fantastic this foundation is, it covers all with out clogging up your pores or feeling caked on. Once set with powder it lasts and lasts and lasts! Definitely recommend everyone to try this product at least once in your life, although if you try it once I guarantee that you will continue buying it!

 

Another favourite of mine is Kat Von D's eyeliner, Tattoo Liner in Trooper. Its extremely precise with a good fluid flow which glides on to your eyelid fantastically. Again it lasts all day!

 

 
This product I always use, everyday! Its +Inglot Cosmetics Gel eyeliner in purple and red for my eyebrows. The reason why I use a gel liner rather then a powder product is, I feel I can get more shape to my brows using gel and can create that sharp shape better with this rather then the powder. Plus the colour pay off is amazing!

 

Lips are created using +Lime Crime "Wicked" liquid lipstick, which I did have some problem with when wearing it all day. It felt like I was reapplying a lot throughout the day...this may of been because I was teaching all day and talking lots! The colour looked fantastic when it was first applied though and had that nice matt effect.

 

So that my Sunshine eyes looks, as I said I will try to post more traditional makeup looks and product reviews on here.

Walking Dead Style Zombie Prosthetic

Hi Guys,

Its been a while hasn't it...lately I just seem to be all over the place and I will admit, I have been neglecting my blogs and YouTube and all of that lovely social goodness that keeps me connected to you guys.
Today's blog is all about a new prosthetic piece that I've created, using some of my new toys which I will be writing a review on all of them individually in more detail.
I've also been toying with the idea of doing some hair blogs/videos as I have had a few people comment about wanting to learn how I do my hair so that's something to look forward to!

So on with the zombie goodness!

As usually I start off with my clay and my Ken Banks tools. For this sculpt I used my new Monster Clay which I got from +PS Composites Ltd when I went to +United Makeup Artist Expo this year.

The clay has consistency similar to that of hard plasticine but was easier to sculpt then my other clays and I found myself able to add a lot more detail into this sculpt then any other prosthetic piece I have done before. Definite thumbs up for this clay!

With this Zombie, I was looking at working on my skills in adding texture to the skin as well as taking a more walking dead style vibe. As you can see I was testing out moulding the teeth rather then putting in my resin teeth. I didn't like it. I think it was the shape of the mouth that just didn't sit well anatomically...felt a bit cheesy B Movie zombie rather then Walking Dead Zombie.

The first initial sculpt went well but when I sat back and took another look the next day, I decide that there were certain aspect that didn't work (such as the mouth as mentioned before.)

So keeping with the first sculpt as the "base" I built up. Am always telling my students that test runs and taking time to perfect a character is a must; that time you take to really sit back and study what you just create will enable to you self assess. Self assessing is always good because it means your taking ownership of your work and building your skills based on you instinct of what works and work you see as needing practice or reshaping or whatever.

 

This is the "rebuild" sculpt. As you can see there are plenty of changes from the original.

The mouth is a little more atomically correct with a better shape for the face, I feel anyways. I had to keep referring back to medical books for the shape and placement of the teeth.

 

More texture was added to the skin with deeper wrinkles and lines to add a bit more of a rotted, aged zombie look. This zombie was not fresh!!

I really went deep with some of those lines as I wanted to make sure there was enough detail to work with on the final piece.
The eye bags were a little difficult for me as I tried to sculpt them stronger and then they went too strong and then they disappeared sooooo this is what I finally ended up with.

In the next blog I will be focusing on the colouring of the piece, for some weird reason I forgot to take a photo of the piece after I casted but as you can see from the below setup...it came out pretty well. The plaster am using at the moment is a bit rubbish but it still didn't ruin any of the detail work I laid down.

Dangerous Beauty Workshops: Creative Makeup Class ... with horns!

Hellooooo my lovelies,

In this entry am going to talking to you guys about my recent workshop at +Blackburn College  with my wonderful level 2 Media Makeup students. As most of you know I teach part time at Blackburn College; covering Media Makeup Level 2 and 3 but every so often I like to go off curriculum and do a fun workshop class or demonstration of the things I love to do in my freelance life. These workshops were planned as part of the college's Industry Week in which people from industry come to the college and hold workshops....hence me doing my workshops!

So this workshop which I decided to name "Dangerous Beauty" (always have to have a theme from all my workshops...yes I know am a nerd!) and focused on using dramatic contouring and eye designs to create edgy pieces. I also decided to allow the use of my headdress for this workshop, my antler and roses one as well as my new rams horn headdress.

Headdress are a new thing for me, but I love being creative so why not! The rams horn one was relatively easy-ish to make but very fiddly do create.

As you can see a lot of wires to fiddle with, the bulk of the horns is made from an air drying putty but my previous "horns" have been made using an oven bake clay...its much lighter but either works.

 

I realised after I painted up the horns that I made one slightly longer then the other...ah well! Painted up using acrylic paints and a little varnish for a smooth/shine finish. I wish I more 'dangly' bits to add but this was all that was in the craft box.

So the workshop demonstration used a mixture of airbrushing techniques, prosthetics and manual makeup...I wanted to demonstrate the variety of skills learnt in Level 3 Media Makeup as well as how to cross over SFX into Fashion Makeup and visa versa...

 

The prosthetic used was just a flat mould textured piece that look like scales...which went with the whole demon lady look.

 

 

Airbrush based using the fantastic #Iwata airbrush gun, its my baby...I will admit am aiming to get an upgrade when I go to +United Makeup Artist Expo this weekend. The foundation used was #mistair which are a silicone based foundation, very light as I wanted the colours on top to pop.

 

Eye liner detail work using +Inglot Cosmetics  eyeliner gel.

 

 

Black eyeshadow by +illamasqua #obsdian This is the blackest of black eye shadows, fantastic to blend, beautifully dramatic. You want a true black eye shadow this is your product!

 

 

The manual contouring was done using +Sugarpill #burnheartpalette ... in particular the red which is called #+love Fantastic palette to do dramatic contouring with as its so pigmented and you can build the colour up so easily! Am pretty sure one of my first review blogs was one this palette so look back through time and check that out if you want more information on the product.

 

 

The colour airbrushing bits, red/black was done using MistFX Aqua paints which can be used alone for body art or mixed 1:1 with distilled water to run through the airbrush gun...which is what I did. The product is brilliant for work like this as it comes in a variety of colours and covers extremely well. No patches or flaking! One piece of advice however make sure you shake the bottle fully and mix the water to paint ratio well other wise you will get a blockage in your airbrush gun.

 

There is an awesome stencil for creating those veins on the neck buuuuut I wanted to demonstrate to the students free hand work.

 

 

Black lipstick by +illamasqua , one of my favourite lipstick to use as it looks beautifully dark and doesn't look patchy as some black lipsticks do ...

 

Studs were pulled out of headband...I tried to find lose ones at my local haberdashery but they didn't have any so, use what you can get....

 

And the final outcome....

 

 

I think it turned out pretty well...the headdress makes it along with those studs down the cheekbones and forehead.

 

 

I love airbrushing...I love mixing it up with manual techniques but the smooth application of the Mistair products looks amazing...my models skin looks beautifully smooth like porcelain.

 

I did another of these workshop with another group of level 2 Media Makeup Students, this time using a blonde model....

 

 

 

 I think both models suit it and am so happy with my new headdress...

Manchester Vintage: Ramsbottom Event

As many of you may know I have my little pop salon which I take to different vintage fairs around the area offering various treatments from hairstyling, makeovers to gel nail polish and manicures.

 I love doing them as you meet the most interesting people, not just those buying the treatments but also the stall holders. One of the main reasons why I love vintage fairs so much is the quirky stuff that you can pick up; from household ornements to teacup bird feeders!! And of course there is the vintage clothing. Am not going to lie am a retro/rockabilly sort of a girl so some of the classic vintage clothing doesn't suit me but the things that you see are amazing. Truely is amazing to see how styles have changed over the eras as well as how incredible that most of it is still in style today.

The event is held every last Sunday of the month by Manchester Vintage (check them out here: http://goo.gl/xyLweC ) and is fully of vintage curiosities and clothes as well as myself who this month was joined by the fabulous Jenny Martin photographer (check her out here; http://goo.gl/1bAwJj ) who was offering mini photo-shoots and prints. She took a few snaps of my models as well as a few of me...often pulling a funny face with my tongue stuck out concentrating! So you will have to stay tuned for the pro photos and follow myself and Jenny for up to date posts/photos!

So my own styling for the day; as mentioned before am one for the retro clothing rather then the classic vintage and like to add a little of the rockabilly spice to all my looks.

My makeup was focusing on my favourite power colour. Purple! And I had the chance to use my brand new Kat Von D eye shadow palette, "True Romance, Poetica". I will be doing a post/review on these products this week, so keep following for that but I will say I love the sparkly shimmer this palette gave.

So I went for a smoky purple eye look, I kept the lashes subtle for this look.
 

 

As normal I have my red brows using +Inglot Cosmetics Eyeliner Gel

Lipstick is one of my favourites by Kat Von D, Studded Kiss Lipstick in "HomeGirl", love the deep berry colour that it creates and its lasts sooooo long! One word of advice, if your using this product make sure you prep your lips with a good scrub (LUSH lip scrub is highly recommended) and a moisturiser (No.7 Lip moisturies or Decleor's is what I would recommend and what I use!)

 

 

With my hair I decided to take it all up, I need to re-dye my hair so I thought I would bring out the all the different shades my hair is going.

With this style I used a big donut ring for the foundation then create a series of pin curls and rolls up and around the sides and back of the piece with a mini victory roll in the front.

I then decorated it with random places flowers and butterflies all over for a pretty but sophisticated look.

 
My outfit for the event was this...

 

My brand new bag from Debenhams Floozie collection, which I love love love! How cute is it!

 

Dress/Skirt from the fantastic Collectif clothing range, its Prue Herringbone Underbust Pencil Skirt. If you haven't heard of this range yet you should definitely check them out. All the clothes are amazing and fit beautifully, I have never bought anything from this store that I haven't loved! With a range of styles from different eras as well as beautiful accessories and bags. This is one brand that if I won the lottery I would buy the whole range!
