Down the Rabbit Hole....

Its been a loooong time since I've posted, and I totally apologise for that...its been a challenging couple of days with college, finishing up students and writing a new qualification for Media Makeup but nothing makes me happier then to create something new...

So here it is my latest prosthetic character. I have loved Alice In Wonderland for years, its always given me a creative buzz and inspired so many thing for me. Its one of those books that you can read a million times overs and not get bored. When Tim Burton's versions of the books came out I was incredibly excited at what weird and wonderful vision would be create. I was not disappointed.

So after I watched Alice: Through the Looking Glass I was inspired to create something; I wasn't sure if I wanted a prosthetic, a makeup or a body art but eventually settled on prosthetic sfx character.

Out came the Monster Clay and my sculpting tools from +PS Composites LTD ....

I knew I wanted to incorporate a steampunk element into the piece and decided that the sculpt would be a collection of elements including cogs, looking glasses, clocks, etc. all on the face of the white rabbit.

As you can see I even added elements linked to the Red Queen through the playing cards and roses.

Painting the piece was a little more challenging as I definitely didn't want it to be traditional colours and I wanted the Steam punk elements to really come out through the paint work so what better colour to select then golds, bronzes and purples using +MEL Products

I had originally planned to sculpt some roses for the Red Queen side but the sculpt wouldn't of come out as well so this part had to be fabrication after the prosthetic was finished.
Painted using +Bdellium Tools

Time to make some bunny ears...I'll be honest didn't know how to create these with the stuff I had...I originally wanted to create those cute lace ears that you see but alas I had no lace...so I found this silver mesh stuff in my craft box and thought what the hell...

I had organically planned to create the roses out of tissue paper but that didn't look good enough so I found these fake roses...again in my craft box which worked really well with my piece and the whole steam punk mood.

After adding the roses to the prosthetic I figured that the ears would look quiet cool if I made them up out of roses. So I attached the roses all over the mess ears I had made which looked good when everything was put together.

I was very excited to put all of this together and see what I created that I decided to create an Application Video of it which can be seen on my YouTube channel. (once I've edited it up)

I took quiet a lot of photos...which isn't really a surprise as am always conscious that I've missed a good shot and by the time I realise it I'll have taken all the makeup off...soooo I took some with the DLSR (which am looking to upgrade to one that takes video as well as photo's) and some with my jazzy phone (which has a decent camera!)

I like it...its what was in my head...

Make applied was:
+Sugarpill Goldilux and Penelope loose pigments...love these pigments, really Steampunk-esque.
+Kat Von D Chrysalis palette and True Romance palette in Poetica
+illamasqua Rose Gold Palette

As I said before their will be an application video which I will get on editing ASAP but make sure to subscribe to my channel to check it out!
I have also got more images up on the facebook page and on Instagram so check them out as well as and make sure to like and follow me.

Like I said am currently writing a new qualification course for hair and media makeup at Blackburn College so I will be back soon with some posts about project work am setting my fabulous students and some more crazy creative pieces of makeup to show you, still following my dreams.
So stay tuned!

Ice Queen Prosthetic Character

Special has always been something that I have adored to do and I think that if I ever had to stop doing it....life would be extremely dull for me.

This design was something I've always wanted to create but I wanted to give it a twist. Snow Queens and Ice Queens have been done so many times and always have that evil sultry look which was a trait I wanted for my design but I wanted to mix in the eeriness that prosthetics can bring to a character, that alien-est/ other worldly look. And so I begin to sculpt a forehead piece which would be the focal point of the character.

As with all my sculpts am using Monster Clay from +PS Composites Ltd  which is quiet solid and firm which I find helps me get the details but you can soften it up a bit using a hairdryer to "melt" it a bit.

The prosthetic is moulded using gelatine purchase from +PS Composites Ltd One day I will learn how to cast foam latex but for now am happy with my gelatine.

My character story for this look is that she is Queen of Ice who rules over a barren waste land of snow and ice. She is fierce and a deadly warrior who protects her domain to the point she has begun to morph into her surrounds with the ice crystals protruding out her forehead and her skin turning to ice.

I keep the colour palette to more glittery/metallic effects using blues and whites from +MEL Products range of PAX paints to create the base colours and then build up the iridescent tones using +Kryolan Professional Make-up Body Makeup Powder in "Silver" and Mehron Metallic Powders also in silver which can be purchased from +Guru Makeup Emporium Ltd

I also experimented with a glitter nail polish which I previously used to create the crown for this character...worked out nicely on the peaks of the ice crystals.

I will admit that some of the edges on this piece were thick...which panicked me a bit but you know me, see a challenge face it head on. There's always a solution to the problem to disguise these sorts of things.

The application of this end up being a mixture of beauty makeup techniques as well as SFX techniques to disguise joins and create an overall balanced effect.

I used silicone based sculpt gel in the joins of the prosthetic piece to ensure they were disguised as best as position. I used Skin Sculpt from +PS Composites Ltd which is clear which makes it easier to colour the piece exactly to the colour of the rest of the character.
The entire piece was glued down using Telesis which is my favourite adhesive to use as once the piece is on its on, and because this prosthetic is gelatine based it can be heavy, which can cause problems with some adhesives but this one always works for me.

I used a mixture of Mehron Face paints for the base all over the face then began adding highlights with the Kryolan Body Makeup Powder in silver. Building the colour in areas that I wanted to draw attention to.

Using a mixture of eyeshadow I created further depth using +Sugarpill Edward Scissorhands palette in the shades "Home Sweet Home" ( a beautiful baby blue colour with sparkles.) and "Ice Angel" (shimmery white with blue tones.) as well as the Sweet Heart palette in shades "Afterparty" and "Tako"

I also used +Illamasqua liquid white liner in "Scribe" and StarGazer White mascara.

As well as +Kat von D eyeshadows from her amazing monarch palette: chrysalis. Shade used include "Lunar Lights" (Soft silvery colour) "Melancholia" (Metallic Silver) and "Graphic Nature" (dark grey metallic colour)

All of which were using in some way to create the contouring and enhance the colours in the prosthetic piece.
The crown is also created by me, using the same colours used on the prosthetic and a hot glue gun and wire.

On the lips I used Mehron's Liquid Metal in Silver which is an amazing lush product that comes in bronze as well as gold and really does create this smooth metallic colour once mixed with there mixing liquid.

And there you have it, my Ice Queen character.

Illamasqua Nomadic Palette and Vintage Metallix "Galaxy" Makeup look and Review

One of the best times of year is of course New Years sales and one of my favourite ones to grab a bargain is Illamasqua, this isn't just because its one of my favourite brands of makeup.
There are a variety of products on offer this year from 50%, 60% and 70% off but hurry, cause I don't know how long it going to last!!
Two of the products currently on sale are the "Nomadic" palette and Vintage Metallix in "Galaxy" which I decided to buy...good choice on my part!

So the Nomadic palette is a collection of 4 eye shadows, 3 matt finishes and 1 metallic finish and all producing an intense colour pay off. Colours include "Loam" (dark earth green), "Terra" (orange clay red), "Solitude" (light wash grey) and "Gravity" (metallic graphic grey)
The tones are all very earthy with beautiful blending abilities which would look amazing for an edgy tribal/warrior style look or a smoky eyed look.

Vintage Metallix in "Galaxy" is an absolutely gorgeous creamy gel eye shadow or as I use it frequently eyeliner. The colour "Galaxy" is a rich antique gold colour with dull metallic tones which is good for a more muted effect. The product boosts an intense metallic finish, smudge resistant and long wear time which I would complete agree with even when used to colour your eyebrows as I have done many times.

The look I came up with for these products was a tribal/warrior style look using only the eye shadows from the Nomadic palette and the Metallix on the brows. All the products went on beautiful with a fantastic colour pay off and a smooth application.

For an added sparkle I put a couple of gems and on my lips I wore +Urban Decay Cosmetics Matt Lipstick in "Black Mail" with a little of the Metallix doted in the centre to add more of a pout to the lips.

The Vintage Metallix worked brilliantly on my brows and really did last all day with good pigmentation.

So that my review and look; as you can see the colours are amazing and if your quick you might be able to grab these products at sale prices from +Illamasqua

PaperSelf Lashes and Nature Inspired Makeup with triple victory rolls.

Hey Lovelies,

Today's uber quick blog relating to pretty makeup is all
about my favourite lashes, PaperSelf lashes, I absolutely love them. They are so cute!!

The ones I used in todays look is these butterfly and stag ones, you can get loads of different deigns as well as full strip lashes. These beautiful corner lashes can be worn on the top or bottom lashes, I like wearing one at a time and usually on the bottom lash line as I feel it shows off the design better. The lash itself is quiet delicate, not like tissue paper delicate but you need to take care not to be too rough with them as they can last quiet a few applications if you look after them.

The look I went for with these lashes was a nature inspired with nude lips which is a weird thing for me, am not one for neutral lips so it did feel a little "different"

I used Jeffree Star Cosmetics Mattifing lipstick in "I'm Nude", the colour is lush not to mention the staying power of this baby! Fantastic colour pay off with only one coat required for good coverage. I'm definitely going to buy more of these, "Unicorn Blood" just looks yummy as well as their range of blue shades.

I used 3 eye shadows in total to create the look, using a simple blending application as I wanted all the focus to be on the lashes.

I used a mixture of +illamasqua "Fame", which is a beautiful lush green, +Sugarpill "Acid Berry", fantastic sharp lime green colour that works perfectly to create a harmonous effect between the two colours. To add a little kick I added +Sugarpill ChromoLust in Goldilux which is a shimmery pure gold colour.

After applying the eyeshadow, I decided I wanted to add more gold tones to the look, so using +Mehron Blog Metallic Powder and mixing liquid, I add a little along the lash lines. If you haven't used this product, go out and buy it now! Its a fantastic liquid gold that really does look like liquid gold, its a lot less shimmery then the Sugar Pill Cosmetic Chromolust.

So that's the look, I teamed it with my triple victory rolls and vola!
What do you think?

I would like to here from you guys about if you would like more video tutorials about makeup rather then just SFX which is primarily what's up on my YouTube. Or would you like a few hair tutorial thrown in there...send me message let me know as I love hearing from you guys.
