Sugar Pill Cosmetics Burning Heart Palette Review

 

Todays review is on Sugar Pills "Burning Heart" palette, I've been meaning to do this review for such a long time as its one of my favourite products in my kit. Its one of those makeup products that when am travelling is all I need in terms of eye colour and it suits summer brights.

 

Like the previous palette reviewed on here, the pigmentation is fantastic and the packaging is so cute!

 

In the palette you get Flame point which an intense orange, Butter cupcake which is such a vibrant yellow, Love+ which is the red and Poison Plum which is a bright purple. All excellent colours for the summer.

 

 

 

As you can see in the photograph above and below, the pigmentation of the colours are amazing. Its so bright and eye catching, I love it. And you can either create a nice sunset style eye makeup look or use the purples against the yellow for examples to create a more contrasting look, (photos of this are such to follow as its one of my favourite quick and easy eye catching styles)

Its totally worth the price as their are so many different looks you can achieve using this product, I even use it for my red eyebrows and I have used it in the past for extreme contouring of the face....works amazingly!

Above is a makeup look created using Poisen Plum and Love+, as you can see it works really well....Love+ also used on my eyebrows!

 

This is one of my more summer looks, using Butter Cupcake, Love+ and Flame Point. I love this look, especially during summer days.

Photographs from the Manchester Vintage Fair in May

About a month ago I took part in another of the wonder Manchester Vintage's vintage fairs in Ramsbottom, this one was part of a whole weekend devoted to all things vintage. FaceLace by Phyllis Cohen Product Review

In this entry am going to be doing a quick review of one of the products I bought from IMATS which is Phyllis Cohen's FaceLace which I have been interested in for ages and after being booked to do a makeup for a mask ball immediately thought of this product.
The reason why I was so interested in this product was because of the interact designs that are on offer, there are several different styles to choose from. There are full masks, half masks, swirly styles, modern styles as well as designs that can be placed down the side of the face. They all look fantastic and quick and easy way to create detail to your makeup.

I bought two different "eye masks", Burlesque and Fleurty.

 

My client didn't want to wear a traditional mask to her mask ball due to the fact that mask commonly hurt your nose when you wear then for a long amount of time therefore Facelace was just the thing to avoid this problem.

 

After applying all her makeup and eye details, I started on applying the Facelace, Fleurty was the design picked. To be honest it was a little fiddly to remove from the backing paper but as long as you have tweezers on stand by and you don't rush...remember people the greatest things are create out of patience! It didn't take long to apply, the good thing was that if it was in wrong position you could gently lift it off and replace...I image you couldn't do this too many times however.

 

The result after applying was amazing, it added such class and style to the makeup and my client was over the moon with the results created. I did add some bling bling to the mask using small gems to match the jewellery she was wearing but honestly you could get away with not having them.

So the finished result...I think she looks absolutely beautiful. 

 

 

 

My honest opinion of this product is it is absolutely amazing. The lace lasted all night with no edges lifting and she didn't have any problems taking it off. It didn't leave any irritating residue and you can put it back on the backing paper for you to use another day.
 I am definitely going to be buying more in the future. Knowing me I'll end up with one of each style because I can't decide which ones I like more. I would recommend this product to everyone, makeup artists, makeup lovers or just anyone who wants to be centre attention at a party...I can guarantee that you will be!

London IMATS 2013

Hello my lovely lovelies,
So last week I went to the fantastic London IMATS which I have been soo sooo excited about going to. I saved up as much money as I could and spent it allll!
Those of you not familiar with what IMATS is, its a massive makeup tradeshow/exhibition full of new and upcoming products as well as a chance to talk to other professionals in the industry, meet the creators of brands and attend seminars + talks with the professionals on different makeup or sfx demonstrations. For a professional makeup artist or student or even just someone who loves makeup, its a fabulous event to attend.

So first thing that hits you when you go to this exhibition is how big the place is and how big the crowds are!! It was held at Olympia National Hall Kensington, which is a huge place.
 

 

 

 

As you can see, huuuuge place which was absolutely packed!.

 

As you walk round there are so many live demonstrations of body art, sfx, makeup...all sorts which was really interesting to watch. It always amazes me what other artists come up with and this year I wasn't disappointed.

 

 

Amazing sfx demonstration of casualty effects with prosthetics and other products.

 

Absolutely amazing body art demonstrations at the show and what was so interesting was as you walked around the event you saw the stages of the application.

 

This was my favourite, I think its absolutely incredible, love how the face is incorporated as well as the precise details.

 

 

 

 

There was also the Makeup Museum that show cased all sort of prosthetic pieces from films as well as the most realistic sculptures and casting even!!!

In the demonstration/talks there was one person I was determined that I had to go see, Bobbie Weiner AKA Bloody Mary. I was interest in her due to her down to earth approachable attitude teamed with her vast knowledge and experience, credits including "Titanic", "Behind Enemy Lines", "True Blood", and more. In her live demonstration she created two characters, zombie girl and a burn victim.

 

The amazing thing about what she did was it was easy to try to recreate as she didn't use a lot of flash expensive products and her own brand products were all reasonably priced but did the job of the more expensive brands, on top of that they are all water based which means they will wash off with soap and water. Nice thing was everyone at the demo got free "zombie flesh cream"...always nice to get a freebie. 

 

So what did I buy....lots.....

These are so cool, they're prosthetics and I slightly went over the top with the whole Steam Punk style!!

So as you can see I had so much fun last weekend and I will be reviewing all the products I have bought at some point.

 

This week is going to be a busy one, its the final week for my lovely creative students from media makeup level 3 and 2 to complete the course, so its all about sorting out the paper work and checking everything's marked. 

Next week, is workshops and tasters for secondary schools in the area to come and watch demos and play with some techniques. 

I also have a hair and makeup booked for this Saturday, a masked ball makeup...which am very excited about as its a fab chance to flex my creative muscles.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil

Hello all! I have been so unbelievably busy these past few weeks with weddings, vintage fairs, War Weekend fairs with Ramsbottom Vintage and the wonderful award winning Jenny Martin (photos to come soon!) and teaching that its been far too long since I've written here!

Today I am going to review an absolutely fabulous product that I feel is a must for all...young and old. You might of already see some of the hype about it or this might be your first introduction to the product. I am talking about Illamasqua's first skin care product, Hydra Veil.

 

The product comes in a very stylish pot that completely represents the brand. The sales woman who I spoke to was very helpful in explaining the product to its fullest, stating that the gel formula aim to hydrate the skin whilst creating the perfect primer for foundation.

 

 

Hydra-Veil come with the cutest spoon which illustrates just how little product is needed to cover the whole face. Which means that the price tag of £27 is well worth it, am predicting that it will last a long time.

 

 

The texture of the product is a gel that is highly refreshing, smooth and hydrating. You can literally feel the gel rehydrating your skin without making it feel slippery or too wet as the product glides on and absorbs effortlessly. 

 

 

It is an unusual formula that when is mixed turns into a jelly like substance however after leaving it to sit for a minute returns to it original glass like gel mixture.

 

Which is what happens on the skin, goes on smooth as glass it. I tested this product on both myself and my mother who immediately felt a difference in her skin and visibly saw a difference in her lines and wrinkles, seeing them smoother and reduced.

 

For myself, after applying the gel and then my makeup over the top I found the result incredible. I found that it created a perfect balance on my skin between rehydrating and creating an even surface for my foundation which meant that it created a flawless finish. My skin was smoother and my foundation lasts longer and prevented the foundation from flaking in areas or gathering in facial lines. Its absolutely perfect for combination skin types that suffer from patches of dehydrated skin as it balances out the skin. It also work fabulously with Illamasqua's own Skin base foundations.

All in all I believe the product is a must for all makeup artists and makeup lovers!

Wasted Lives; Live car crash rescue demonstration

So last week was uber busy for me and my students, we’re midway through completing their media makeup module where the students have to produce a tramp character, a character with prosthetics included as well as a character including ageing effects and prosthetics. In between these assessments we’ve been very busy with work experience jobs.

We’re still completing the photo-shoots for the local police who are creating a calendar to raise money for charity, recreating movie posters. Last week it was Charlie’s Angels, Twilight, Trainspotting and James Bond, which my students did fantastically well with.

The big event that myself and my fabulous students, Shannon, Pam, Aleena and Amy took part in was the “Wasted Lives” campaign, working the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services, North West Ambulance and Lancashire Constabulary. We were invited to help out by Harry who is a student studying fire and rescue service management at the university centre, Blackburn to help him create demonstration which saw our models play passages in a car that had crashed. The demonstration was provided by “Wasted Lives” programme, set up by the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and saw characters being cut out of a car crash and how the emergency services deal with car crashes as well as campaigning to protect young drivers by raising awareness of the dangers of dangerous driving.

Our job as makeup artist was to create realistic car crash wounds to reflect the characters injuries. We had a variety of injuries to portray from busted lips, grazes, cuts, bruises, airbag injuries to internal injuries.

 

The majority of sfx wounds benefited from the use of a little sponge that every makeup artist should carry, stipple sponge. This sponge is perfect for creating random grazes and adding texture to your cuts. Dip it in Ben Nye’s Scratch blood and away your go, extra tip: to create definition use a mixture of red shades and add gravel texture for a really nasty graze caused by a scrap across the ground.

Another saving grace to this project was Shannon and her creation of a gory prosthetic to reflect the fact that her model was thrown through the car window at 100mph and rolled across the road, so obviously received some nasty road burns and scraps.

She created this effect by using latex and tissue, then building up the colours to create a very realistic, textured effect. This method is taught on my course at Blackburn College and I do teach you how to create basic prosthetics, so if you’re interested in finding out the how’s, come join my merry gang of makeup artists.

Grimas derma wax was also a well-used product in this project, Pam used it to create this lovely busted lip effect. The key to using derma-wax is keep your model and hour hand cold! Usually if the wax is applied and blended well it will be self-sticking but in this case where the models are running around and being cut out of cars spirit gum and sealer is needed for that extra staying power!

Now in the case of internal injuries….blood capsule are your best friend (those used were by Kryolon). Team this with pale out face and glycerine (also supplied by Kryolon) to create a sweat look and tell your model to use the capsule just as the paramedics are moving them….bish bash bosh nice internal bleeding effect.

 

So all in all it was a pretty exciting day for myself and my fabulous creative bee’s. We got through quiet a lot of blood….Mehron’s dark stage blood is definitely recommended. And as I told my students endless of times….if you come away from a job like this clear…you haven’t added enough!
